The Norwegian surname Frederickson is of patronymic origin deriving from the first name Frederick. The personal name Frederick is derived from an ancient name meaning “ peaceful ruler.” In Norway the  spelling of the name was Fredricksen but this was frequently anglicized to Frederickson after arrival in the United States.  Marcus Ludwig Fredricksen immigrated to the United States in 1911 landing at Ellis Island. He was born at Skedsmo Ak, Norway in 1894. His immediate ancestors came from the Norwegian region of Søndre Odalen Hed. Today there are approximately 3,500 bearers of the name Frederickson living in the United States with approximately 600 retaining the original spelling of Fredricksen.
