Hunyadi family crest
The Hungarian surname Hunyadi originated in the 15th Century when the Castle of Hunyad and surrounding lands were granted by Sigismund, King of Hungary to Voyk, the progenitor of the Hunyadi family, and four of his kinsmen in 1409. A member of the Hinyadi family, Matthias Corvinus, was King of Hungary from 1458 until 1490,  King of Bohemia from 1469 until 1490, and Duke of Austria from 1487 until 1490. Today there are approximately 200 bearers of the surname Hunyadi living in the United States.
