The Scottish surname Kellogg, also found in England, is of habitation origin from Keiloch in Aberdeenshire or Killoch in Ayrshire. One John Ryche alias Kelhoge, appears in the 1541 Fine Court Rolls of Essex. In 1651 a Joseph Kellogg emigrated from Great Leighs, Essex to Connecticut. One of his descendants, William Kellogg (1830-1918) became governor of Louisiana. In the modern idiom the name has two spelling variations: Kellogg and Kellog. Today there are approximately 15,000 bearers of the name Kellogg in the US.
