MCINTIRE CLAN CREST

The Scottish surname McIntire, also found in Ireland, is an anglicized form of the Gaelic name Mac an tSaoir meaning “son of the craftsman.” The McIntire’s originally hailed from the Hebridies islands and later settled in the area around Kintyre which was controlled by clan MacDonald. The name was brought to Ireland by 17th Century Scottish settlers and is found in the northeast of the country. The name is first recorded in the New World in 1715 when Finlow McIntyre arrived in Maryland. Today there are approximately 11,000 bearers of the name McIntire living in the US.
