The name was brought to South Africa by Dutch settlers in the 17th and 18th Centuries. Early recordings of the name in South Africa include the marriage of Anthonie Josephus Mulder from Zwolle in The Netherlands to Cornelia Jacoba Goor in Cape Town on Oct 18th 1807 and Engelbert Mulder from Deventer in The Netherlands who married Geertruy Johanna Gutsche from Rotterdam also in Cape Town in 1810.
