Pickett Family CrestThe English and Scottish surname Pickett is of patronymic origin deriving from the Middle English, Old French personal name Picot, Pigot, a pet form of” Pic.” The personal name Pic is ultimately Germanic in origin meaning “sharp, or pointed.” The first written reference to the name is in the Domesday Book of 1086 when Roger Picot is recorded as living in Cheshire. Adam Pickett was the captain of the  ketch "New London" on its voyage to the Barbados in 1679. In Scotland the name Pickett is concentrated in Lanarkshire, Renfrewshire, and Ayrshire and Scottish settlers brought the name to Ireland in the 17th Century where it is chiefly found in county Derry.
