Adam Pickett was the captain of the  ketch "New London" on its voyage to the Barbados in 1679. In Scotland the name Pickett is concentrated in Lanarkshire, Renfrewshire, and Ayrshire and Scottish settlers brought the name to Ireland in the 17th Century where it is chiefly found in county Derry.
