Redick Family Crest

Redick Family CrestThe Scottish and Northern Irish surname Redick is of habitational origin being derived from the place name Rerrick or Rerwick in Kirkcudbrightshire, Scotland. The origin of the name is uncertain with an unknown first element + wic ‘outlying settlement’. It is also possible that the first element was originally Old Norse rauðr ‘red’. When found in England the name Redick is habitational from Redwick in Gloucestershire, named in Old English with hreod meaning “reeds,” and  wic  meaning “outlying settlement.”  A notable bearer of the name is John B. Reddick a 19th Century US politician and Lieutenant Governor of California.
