Ruadhan is in turn derived from Rua the Irish word for red, in this case meaning  "red-haired or of ruddy complexion". The Rowan's are found in the west of Ireland predominantly in counties Galway, Mayo, and Roscommon. Today there are 14,000 people living in the United states with the family name Rowan.
