Scally Family Crest
The Irish surname Scally is an Anglicized form of the Gaelic name Ó Scolaidhe meaning “descendant of the scholar,” from scolaidhe meaning “scholar.” Originally a Co. Westmeath Clan, the Scally's were driven by Anglo-Norman pressure south to Munster around 1170. One branch of the family settled in Lorrha (North Tipperary), and another established itself in South Tipperary, near Cashel.
