Bohanan family crest

The Irish and Scottish surname Bohanan, is an anglicized form of the Gaelic name Ó Buadhachanáin, a double diminutive of buadhach  which means “victorious.” The first written reference to the name is in Stirling Scotland in 1224 when Dominus Absolone de Buchkan was a witness to a charter in that year. In Ireland the name Bohanan is first recorded in County Cork in the southern province of Munster.
