Buckley Family Crest
BUCKLEY CREST ENGLAND |
BUCKLEY CREST IRELAND |
The Irish surname Buckley, also found in England, is an anglicized form of the Gaelic surname Ó Buachalla meaning “descendant of Buachaill,” a byname meaning “cowherd.” When found in England the name is an habitational name from any of the many places so named, most of which are from Old English bucc ‘buck’, ‘male deer’ or bucca ‘he-goat’ + leah ‘woodland clearing’. Places called Buckley and Buckleigh, in Devon, are named with Old English boga ‘bow’ + clif ‘cliff’. The name Buckley is found throughout Ireland but is most numerous in the southern province of Munster, particularly in county Cork.
