Hodges Family Crest
The English surname Hodges, also found in Scotland and Ireland, is of patronymic origin deriving from the medieval personal name Hodge, a short form of Roger. The first written reference to the name is in 1327 when Alicia Hogges is recorded in the Subsidy Rolls of Somerset. Later references include William Hodges listed in the Suffolk Subsidy Rolls of 1524, and Agnes Hodgett in the Marriage License lists of London for the year 1577. A notable bearer of the name was the English Trade Union leader Frank Hodges.
