The Italian surname Musto is an occupational name being derived from the Latin term mustus “ meaning fermenting wine,”  a nickname for someone who made wine. This name is found in all wine growing regions of Italy with a particular concentration in the Campania region. A notable bearer of the name was the Argentinian impressionist painter Manuel Musto (1893-1940) who was of Italian descent.
