Odell Family CrestThe English surname Odell is of habitational origin, deriving from  a place in Bedfordshire, also called Woodhill, from Old English wad or ‘woad’ (a plant collected for the blue dye that could be obtained from it) + hyll ‘hill’. The barony of Odell was granted to the Knights Templar at the time of the first crusade by Baron de Wadhull. Odell was recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086 as a parish of the Hundred of Willey. Today there are more than 32,000 people with the family name Odell living in The United States.
