Overview
John came to Heraldic Jewelry with a deeply personal vision: to create a custom family jewelry set that honored his ancestors and could be given as meaningful birthday gifts to family members. Rather than creating a single piece, John wanted a coordinated set that included a men’s ring, a ladies’ ring, and a pendant, all made in 14KT white gold.
At the heart of the project was family heritage. The finished pieces needed to feel traditional, symbolic, and heirloom-quality, while still carrying personal details that made the design entirely unique to his family.
John wanted the design to connect generations, from Viking ancestry beforethe Norman invasion of England in 1066 to the first members of hisfamily who arrived in the United States in the 19th century.
Design Requirements and Vision
- The client provided a sketch of a family coat of arms that had been passed down through multiple generations. This became the foundation for the custom
design.
2. The addition of the
old spelling of the family name, Puttenham, was requested, along with
the name ANSKETIL and the date 1066 to honor his Viking ancestors who
moved to England before the Norman invasion.
3. He wanted to recognize the first Putnam ancestors who arrived in the United States. Their names, birth dates, and death dates were incorporated
into the ring shoulders, adding a second layer of meaning to the design.
Our design team used the customer's own coat of arms as the base for the commission and enhanced it with a unique take on the classic Irish claddagh design.
Design Process

- Custom engraving on the jewelry to personalize each piece.
- After consultations, we refined the design further by adding custim engraving on each piece to personalize each jewelry piece.

Stephanie came to us with a request to create a unique modern bold design but base it on an old ring that had belonged to her father and had been in the family for years.
She provided us with an image of the ring, see below, and we used this as basis for our design. The design team used the original design but gave it a modern twist with more up to date lines around the shield, giving the ring a bold modern look.
The finished proof was approved with delight by the customer. She was overjoyed upon receiving the 14KT Gold ring.
