Salyards family crest

The English and Scottish surname Salyards is a Middle English variant of Saylors, or is an anglicized version of the French-Norman name, de la Seyliard. The name is of occupational origin deriving from the  name for a dancer or acrobat, from Old French sailleor meaning “dancer, or leaper.” The first reference to the name in the US is Joseph  Syard, age 38, leaving London on the ship named Transport on 4 July 1635, bound for Virginia.
