Tudor Family Crest

Tudor Family CrestThe Welsh surname Tudor is derived  from the personal name Tudur, which is of ancient Celtic origin and may be a Celtic form of Theodore. The name is first recorded in Herefordshire where Tudor Trevor was Lord of Hereford. He was the founder of the Tribe of Marches, born in Denbigh, son of Ynyr Ap Cadforch. His descendants intermarried with North Wales noble families. The association with royalty comes through Owen Tudor, the grandfather of the later King Henry VII of England. He was clerk of the wardrobe to Catherine of Valois, and was unfortunate enough to be captured at the battle of Mortimer's Cross, England, in 1461 and beheaded.
