Whitechurch Family Crest
The English surname Whitechurch is of habitational origin deriving from any of several places named Whitchurch from having a ‘white’ (Old English hwīt) church, i.e. probably one built of stone, as for example in Dorset, Hampshire, Shropshire, and Somerset. The name is first recorded in Shropshire in the Feet Fines of 1273. The name Whitechurch is also found in Ireland where it was brought by English settlers in the 16th and 17th Centuries. In Ireland it is predominantly found in the province of Leinster on the East coast.
