Overview
When Trevor contacted us, he had a meaningful vision in mind: custom men’s and ladies crest rings created as a wedding gifts for his son and wife to be. The pieces were intended to celebrate not only the wedding day itself, but the joining of two families, Buchanan and Machado, into one new family story.
He wanted the rings to feel traditional, symbolic, and timeless. Rather than creating an overly ornate design, his goal was to let the family symbols speak for themselves. The finished pieces would become more than rings. They would become new heirlooms for the Buchanan Machado family.
The client commissioned custom men’s and ladies rings as wedding gifts for his son and daughter-in-law. The rings were designed to represent the joining of the Buchanan and Machado families through a newly created family crest.
Design Requirements and Vision
- From the Buchanan coat of arms,
the design team incorporated the lion rampant. From the Machado coat
of arms, the team incorporated five battle-axes. - Each symbol carried meaning. The
lion represents courage in action and noble ambition, while the battle-axe represents authority and readiness for battle. - Together, they created a strong visual statement about heritage, family
strength, and the beginning of a new shared legacy.
The creative journey began with the existing Buchanan and Machado crests. The goal was not to copy either crest exactly, but to create a new family image inspired by both. The design team focused on three priorities:
Design Process
- Preserving heritage. The Buchanan lion rampant and Machado battle-axes were selected as the central symbols because they clearly represented each family line.
- Creating balance. The shield was divided so that both families had equal visual importance within the design.
- Keeping the ring elegant and readable. Since crest rings require clarity at a small scale, the final artwork needed to be bold, clean, and not overly detailed.
- Two different ring finishes. The bride's ring was made with a white gold band upon her request. This made for a beautiful contrast between the two rings.

The finished commission was created as a 14kt yellow gold ring for the groom and a 14kt yellow gold ring with a white gold band for the bride. The bride's two-tone combination gave the piece a striking contrast which the bride loved.

- A divided shield representing the union of two families.
- A traditional helmet and mantling
- For the bride's ring a 14kt gold ring face with a white gold band for contrast and elegance.
The rings were delivered in time for the wedding day, making it possible for Trevor to present them to his son and new daughter-in-law as a meaningful wedding gift. The finished pieces exceeded expectations and became exactly what he had hoped for: custom heirlooms marking the beginning of a new family.
